What do You Want to Read About?

As many of you may know, I write a monthly “Tech Support” column for Linux Magazine. I am lucky enough to be able to write about almost anything (Linux related) that I would like. What I want to know is – what do you want to read about? The column is limited to one page, so topics can't be *too* complicated. If a more in depth topic is of interest to you however, let me know and I will consider it for a longer article that does not run in the “Tech Support” space. Thanks for your feedback.

I would like to see something about solving the difficulties in finding a distro that works on notebooks, and why it's hard to get hardware compatibility

How about an article Gentoo's portage, Debian's apt-get, Redhat's rpms, etc… and the positive and negative aspects of all of the major ones?

Hi Jeremy. Just a quick thought or two, although my subscription to Linux Magazine must be different since thwe site is http://www.linux-magazine.com vs linux-mag. Nevertheless, I have bookmarked your article Chroot etc., and would suggest you might address when one needs to load kernel source to install a package, or should that be 'module' – What's the difference? As a user of VMware Workstation for windows hosts, I regularly install the latest releases of various distros, which usually work right out of the DVD – however in order to load a special driver (foo2zjs) and color.icm for my new laser printer I was – for the first time required to make – ./configure – make install, and had to go back and install gcc etc. I guess some distros install it automatically and some don't – however an article on Install/Compile 101 would be useful. thanks
