Myths About Samba

Andrew Tridgell has posted a great article over on Groklaw about a few persistent Samba Myths. An interesting read and I'll guess that almost every person who reads the article will learn at least one new thing – I know I did.

One of the best things about this article I feel is the olive branch extended to Microsoft at the end. I myself have been guilty of too much MS-bashing in the past whereas energies would be better spent on promoting FOSS. Mud-slinging in the industry only looks bad and for my part I would like to see more attempts at developing standards. This can then lead to competition in products which is generally a good thing. I'm a realist – I doubt MS will take Mr Tridgell up on his offer but wouldn't it be great if they did?

I have to agree. Well written article, though. I like when the tone is casual enough to keep you interested in the heavy stuff. I read it several days ago, but didn't comment until now. Sorry…
